The research group, which is now moving its safety research equipment to Campus Helsingborg, is led by Enrico Ronchi, researcher at the Division of Fire Safety Engineering, Faculty of Engineering . Together with colleagues from Lund University's Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Medicine, they will establish the Helsingborg Safety Hub.
- We want to develop a hub for groundbreaking research and education in the areas of perceived safety, traffic safety, fire safety and public health and safety. The first step is to bring our top-notch equipment for the performance of safety research here from Italy, says Enrico Ronchi.
The researchers hope that in the long term the project will benefit the future of safety not only in Helsingborg, but also beyond the city limits.
- What is unique about our work is that we use a variety of approaches. By using VR equipment, we can recreate real-life events that provide a better understanding of the safety challenges that can exist in a city. Driving simulators will allow us to carry out traffic safety research in a controlled and realistic environment and to gain knowledge which can influence important decisions, says Enrico Ronchi.
The project has been funded by Lund University as a new strategic initiative at Campus Helsingborg with a total of SEK 3 million.
The project group consists of:
• Enrico Ronchi, Division of Fire Safety Engineering, Faculty of Engineering
• Carmelo D'Agostino, Transport and Roads, Faculty of Engineering
• Carl Johnsson, Transport and Roads, Faculty of Engineering
• Giedre Gefenaite, Department of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine
• Kristoffer Mattisson, Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Faculty of Medicine
